July 2024: Simply Being

Hello, July -

We are halfway through 2024! I am delighted to share that as I type this, my partner and I are headed for our first vacation of the year. We are taking the holiday week to spend time in the Rocky Mountains. Colorado continuously provides the most restorative getaway - hiking, fishing, and observing the mountain flora and fauna. Just knowing that this retreat is a mere eight hours west is a comfort in itself, so close and attainable.

The past month has been a journey of self-exploration, pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone. I’ve navigated difficult conversations, carried the heavy burden of overcommitment and productivity, and learned to release opportunities that no longer align with my path. Do you sometimes feel like it's just so hard to be a person? That’s how this month has felt for me. In these moments, my sister—my mentor, therapist, spiritual guide, and best friend—reminds me to stay present with my emotions rather than intellectually bypassing them. Here's what she means...

We live in a society that celebrates productivity with praise, likes, and flattery; while simultaneously offering numerous distractions to keep our psyche's need for rest and silence at bay. It becomes all too easy to bury our emotions with whatever diversion suits us best—binge watching TV, scrolling, eating, shopping, drinking—anything but simply being.

I spent the weekend in silence: journaling, walking, baking, and watching the bees hover above the flowers...shifting my focus back to a bigger perspective about our purpose here. This trip to Colorado feels like divine timing, a geographical shift to spark an internal re-alignment. I know myself well, and if I don’t carve out time to connect with nature and its elements, my life force dwindles and dims. I will be out of office this week and striving to be unreachable; when I return I intend to show up reinvigorated and ready for the second half of the year ahead.

May you find a month—or even a moment—of reconnection to your own life force,

With warmth,

 Lucy
